Developer Travis Bonnet reported that Claude Code, asked to analyse a client's financial information, built a dashboard and deployed it to a public Netlify web address with no login. The page contained real names and financial amounts. It is not known whether anyone else viewed it.
Why it matters. An everyday development habit, auto-deploying a preview, becomes a confidentiality breach when the data belongs to someone else.
| Expected | What it did |
|---|---|
| Analyze a client's business information | Deployed a dashboard with client names and amounts to a public URL without authentication 001 |
Outcome. Operator added a no-public-client-data instruction; actual external readership and exposure duration are unknown.
Dates keep the precision the sources give.
Original retrospective operator essay; no independent forensic report or exposed dataset was sought.
Backed by developer or operator account. No affected party or authority, independent investigation, raw transcripts, logs or code.
The operator reports client names and financial amounts in an unauthenticated public dashboard.
Source account; underlying private telemetry has not been independently audited here.
As described by the cited sources. Proposed fixes are under Consequences.
Nothing stopped deployment of client data to a public URL; the operator later added an instruction. 001
Reported, not independently tested.
Reading a source is not the same as confirming everything in it.
Task type, public deployment, real names/amounts, no authentication and operator mitigation.
